JHMusic, etc.
offers extensive audio editing and post-production services for talk radio, podcasting and live presentation archival/broadcast.
Simple Services
Cleaning up intro and outro dead space and filling in same with music. Additionally, pre-recorded commercials can be inserted at given locations.
More Complex Editing
Often, clients have raw audio that requires extensive cleanup. This can include:
- Removing Vocal Static (umm’s, ahhh’s, uhh’s, etc.)
- Removing sentences or sections
- Sound Enhancement
- Creating “Bumpers” out of existing theme music
- File restoration (Click, pop and static removal)
- Sound level normalization
- Conversation or Presentational Reconstruction
For this kind of “talk-radio” style work, we have one goal: Make our client and their guest(s) sound the very best that they can. It’s just that simple.
Sound Preparation
- Adding Sound Effects or Music
- MP3 Audio Editing for games, iPods, etc.
- File Mastering
So is there anything you don’t do?
Good question! Yes, there are things we don’t do. Specifically, we don’t perform audio forensic services (i.e., the really super cool stuff you see on TV crime dramas). The good news is, that’s pretty much the only thing we don’t do, so if you need it we can work it out for you.
Pricing
Our hourly rate for audio editing is $50. There is no minimum (but also no maximum; more on that in a moment), but we also don’t charge in hourly increments. Our time spent on projects is carefully monitored. We clock in when we start, and we clock out when the file is saved and tagged, rounding down (yes, DOWN, not up) to the nearest five (5) minute mark. So, for example, if it takes us forty-seven minutes to complete your project, you are charged for 45 minutes worth of work at $50 per hour, making your total bill $37.50! How’s that for customer service??? For the sake of clarity and full disclosure, our hourlies are based on time spent editing and prepping a project or file, and not on the actual audio length. (This goes back to the no maximum we talked about earlier.) The amount of time spent in editing and post-production can vary a great deal. This can not be stressed enough. There are some common factors that influence this:
- What kind of edit you are looking for (basic/intensive)
- What kind of equipment was used in the recording
- Basic editing (processing, assembly, but very little cleanup) often takes around an hour (this is usually with NO, or very few, interior file cleanup or edits)
- Length of the actual file (There is no hard and fast rule here, but a common guideline can be 2-3 hours of editing per hour of audio)
You can also choose to contract me in hour blocks. Basically, you are reserving my time. These are available starting in 20 hour blocks, and increasing in 10 hour increments.
So How Long Will You Have To Wait?
Not long! At JHMusic, etc. we are known for our quick turnaround time. Most audio files can be uploaded to our ftp server (or shared via Dropbox) and the project can begin immediately. We queue our work on a “first-come first-served” basis (except for Rush Orders) so, as soon as your file(s) is(are) received your job will be queued. Within one business day you will be emailed with rough estimate for completion. At that time we will also let you know of any mitigating factors (click here for more information on that) that might affect your job. Rush Services (minimum 24-hour turnaround, but we will work with you to meet your needs) are available. However, these services are subject to availability and are priced at +35% of your total job cost.
Once any particular job is completed, paying for services is simple. Unless you have made other arrangements, an invoice will be sent via PayPal which you can pay using your PayPal account, your credit or debit card or an echeck. It’s just that easy!
