LOGOS

The church wanted a simple but effective logo that:

  • Could serve as artwork for bulletins, business paraphernalia, and advertisement
  • Had a simple clean look
  • Primarily Black & White but incorporated a splash of their primary color
  • Conveyed their global mission
  • Incorporated the slogan from their mission statement

The goal in this logo was to:

  • Incorporate the full name of the client’s business
  • Create a brand logo that could be used by itself as the client’s emblem for public ad’s (car magnets, etc.)
  • Use a bold b&w look with a splash of color

Some people have asked about my logo, so here it is…

The background is added to the image on the right for clarity and purposes of explanation.

In attempting to create a logo for myself, I tried to think of all the different services I might offer.  True, the logo doesn’t cover them all, but I’ll get to that in a moment.

Present in the logo are a conductor’s baton, a timpani mallet, a drumstick and a pen.

  • The shoulder and tip area of the drumstick indicate, obviously, that I am a drummer, but it left on open bottom end.  That seemed a fine place to indicate that I am also an educator.
  • The pen is used to indicate the two sides of my music writing; specifically that I am both a composer and an arranger.
  • I set up these symbols in this way (the circle) to try to give the notion of completeness; that, in coming to me, one gets everything they might need.

Logos are tricky.  That one bit if art which is able to instantly connect the consumer with the person or product is an almost ineffable mystery.  Why do some work and some don’t?  Your thoughts?
