Professor Marler is an awesome professor. I really enjoyed his class. I did not have a background in music but found the assignments interesting. He went out of his way to explain grading systems and always showed that he cared. I’d recommend this class to everyone.

Professor Marler was caring, understanding, and treated us with respect from the start. He always went to extra mile to make sure students knew they were loved and he was accessible outside of class. His expectations were clear and reasonable, and he always graded assignments fairly. I had no music knowledge before and still did well in his class.

Such a good prof. He was always there for me outside of class and answer any question I had. The lectures weren’t just music stuff either. He helped us be better musicians and better people.

One of my favorite classes that I had this semester. Even though the class was Intro to Listening, he often started each class with a life lesson or something interesting that wasn’t related, but still captivating. – University of Alabama Undergraduate Student
The greatest professor. He is nice and willing to talk to you about our course or about life in general. He is always making life and class enjoyable. – Lee University Undergraduate Student
Music Theory is not something you can just study out of a textbook. To grasp the concepts and pass the class, you have to participate. There’s not a ton of homework assigned, but what is will be challenging. Everything this professor does is to help you get an A. He gives extra credit opportunities, is willing to work with you, and really cares. – Lee University Undergraduate Student
Best professor I have had so far! He’s very understanding and realizes the students are their own people with other things going on in life. Highly recommend! – University of Alabama Undergraduate Student

Prof. Marler was absolutely great! Every lecture was made interesting and fun! Attendance is not mandatory, but Prof. Marler makes attending the class an absolute blast! He is funny, and music 121 is a super easy class, but he makes it really interesting. – University of Alabama Undergraduate Student
Very caring professor that understands most people are taking the class for a fine arts credit but he still keeps every lecture interesting and engaging. – University of Alabama Undergraduate Student
Easy going, but make sure you go to class to do the in class only super easy assignments so you get credit. Everything is located on the syllabus! I made a mistake by not reading it in the beginning of the year and it hurt me a little. But overall super easy!!!! – University of Alabama Undergraduate Student
I took this class for my fine arts credit and professor marler was such a great professor- he understands that most his entire class is just there for the credit but makes sure you have ample opportunity to get assignments done.
Easy going. Do your work and do well. – University of Alabama Undergraduate Student
Obviously MUS121 is a super easy class, and Professor Marler kept that standard and made it more fun. He is so passionate about music and also sprinkles some life lessons into his lectures. His miscellaneous assignments were extremely easy compared to some of the other professors’ that my friends took this class with. – University of Alabama Undergraduate Student
He is a genuine professor. The class itself is very test heavy and have random assignments which is why you have to come to class, although a lot of people don’t. If you miss more than 1 of these random assignments your grade will drop. Marler is great though. He teaches the class well and does a very good job. I would recommend. – University of Alabama Undergraduate Student
